About John R. Mazurek, MSW

Since earning my Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois--Chicago Circle in 1976, I have taken additional training in brief treatment, hypnotherapy, and Bowen Family Systems Theory; and I have had a wide variety of experiences in the field of mental health:

• as a team leader on the inpatient psychiatric unit of St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center in Chicago, Illinois;
• as a group leader in the psychiatric day hospital of Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois;
• as the coordinator of the outpatient day hospital program of Maine Center for Mental Health in Park Ridge, Illinois;
• as a therapist in the adult and adolescent programs of community based family agencies in Franklin Park, Westchester, and Wilmette, Illinois;
• with seniors, adults, and adolescents in two private group practices (Pathways Associates in Hinsdale, Illinois and Perakis, Resis, and Associates in Schaumburg and Crystal Lake, Illinois); and
• as a facilitator for a clergy group focused on their families of origin.

In September 2001 I began my own private practice where I work with adolescents and their families, and adults including seniors. I help individuals, couples, and families achieve happiness, closeness, love, and emotional and physical comfort.

I am also involved in research on emotional cutoff in families and on what interferes with people accomplishing the behavior changes that they set for themselves.
